Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you are all enjoying the cooler weather and the magical time of year that is now upon us! Once again, I am sending my winter letter a little early to give you an opportunity to mark your calendars. The remainder of 2019 is overflowing with events and celebrations at all of our schools. I hope you will be able to join us to share the spirit of the season with our students and staff.
Next week marks the beginning of our Winter Concerts at Hewlett High School, Woodmere Middle School, Hewlett Elementary School, and Ogden Elementary School. As I am sure you know, our students light up the stage with their outstanding renditions of holiday favorites. For a complete list of our upcoming concerts, please click HERE.
Our student artists will take center stage on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:30 PM at the opening of our very own art exhibit, Gallery One. All are welcome to attend to view the magnificent artwork and remain for the Board of Education Work meeting at 7:30 PM. If you are unable to join us for the gallery opening, please feel free to stop by the Woodmere Education Center during school hours for a self-guided tour!
The time-honored tradition of Operation Holiday Cheer at Dees’ Nursery is on Monday, December 9, where our HES students will help send cards, gifts, and trees to the troops serving our country in the Middle East.
Happy Birthday to the Franklin Early Childhood Center Puffball Celebration! This year marks 50 years that our Pre-K students have been enjoying their fabulous puffballs. Students have even been known to take their beloved puffballs to college! This year’s special celebration takes place on Friday, December 20.
Seasonal events and celebrations abound with the FECC New Year’s Celebration, the HES Vanaver Caravan Festival of Lights Holiday Show, the OES Holidays Around the World, and 2nd Grade Candy House Tradition, the WMS 6th grade Frost Valley and Long Island Adventure trips, and of course, the incredible HHS Chorale Tour! Please view our calendar HERE to stay up to date on all of our upcoming events.
Our fall athletic teams all had exciting seasons and the winter teams are off to a fantastic start. To cheer on the Bulldogs at upcoming games, meets, and matches, please click HERE.
The HW 2025 initiative continues, with students in grades 6-12 recently completing a Curriculum and Instruction Survey. Next on the agenda is the Alumni Survey, where we will query recent alumni on the benefits of a Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools education. To learn more about our HW 2025 initiative, and view past survey results, please click HERE.
Our commitment to all of our District facilities is ongoing, with many of buildings in the midst of construction and renovation projects. The heating, ventilation, and cooling projects at FECC and HES are nearing completion and the new libraries at HES and OES are sights to behold. There are many additional projects on the horizon. To stay up-to-date on our construction projects, please view the Construction Update that accompanies the Board of Education Meeting Re-Cap each month, or click HERE to view the update online.
As you can see, the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools community has much to celebrate this season. We look forward to more magical moments in the year ahead.
On behalf of everyone here at Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, I wish you peace, happiness, and joy in 2020!
