Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome Back to Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools! I hope you and your families had a wonderful, fun-filled, and relaxing summer!
Yesterday, at our District Welcome Back, we greeted all of our returning staff, as well as many new members of our Hewlett-Woodmere family. Excitement filled the air as we anticipate the students’ arrival on Tuesday, September 3!
Throughout the summer, many changes have taken place at all of our facilities. As you know, the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors remains our highest priority. Upon your first visit to one of our buildings, you will notice the new Aiphone entrance system. This system allows us to lock all doors leading to school vestibules while our security personnel screens visitors through an audio/video device mounted outside. The first set of doors will remain locked until security permits entrance. HHS also has a completely renovated security checkpoint at the Everit Avenue entrance.
In addition, tremendous progress has been made on the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning project at FECC and HES, and we are on target for a spring 2020 completion. Both HES and OES have fantastic new libraries nearing completion that are sure to encourage all students to curl up with a great book!
As always, I encourage you to review our District calendar and plan to join us for our upcoming Back-to-School Nights, musical performances, gallery openings, academic fairs, athletic events, meetings, and so much more! Once again, I will be hosting Superintendent Roundtables throughout the community and all are welcome! Our regular Board of Education meetings will also continue their District tour of our school buildings from October – February. We look forward to seeing you whenever your schedule allows! Our District Website (www.hewlett-woodmere.net), District Facebook page, and District App are terrific sources of information about the latest news and events at Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools.
We have so much to look forward to as the 2019-2020 school year begins. It is sure to be one filled with exceptional learning, encore-worthy performances, thrilling athletic events, and inspiring community gatherings.
I hope you enjoy the last few days of summer and have a memorable Labor Day weekend with family and friends. I cannot wait to greet the students on their first day!
On behalf of the entire Hewlett-Woodmere staff, I wish you and your families a magical 2019-2020 school year!
