Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy spring! The arrival of spring means we are in the home stretch of the 2018-2019 school year. It is hard to believe that in two short months we will be enjoying all of our wonderful end of the year celebrations!
I hope you were able to join us at some of our most recent events. The WMS production of “Shrek, Jr.,” the HHS rendition of “Pride and Prejudice,” and our All District Orchestra and Jazz Nights were not to be missed! The talent shows at HES and OES proved that our younger performers are more than ready to step into the spotlight at Woodmere Middle School and Hewlett High School in the years to come. The FECC One World Celebration continues to be a wonderful tribute to different cultures from around the world!
On April 9th at 7:00 PM our WMS sixth grade chorus, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade bands, and our HHS chorus and band will grace the stage at the world renowned Carnegie Hall. Tickets for this spectacular event are still available at the Carnegie Hall box office or on www.carnegiehall.org. It is sure to be a night to remember!
The upcoming Library Art Show will provide a wonderful feast for the eyes on April 15 and 16 at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library from 2:30 – 7:00 PM. Please plan to attend to view the magnificent work from our talented HWPS artists.
Next up from the world of theater is the HHS Theater Company production of “Clue” from April 11-13. Tickets can be purchased online at https://hewlettwoodmere.seatyourself.biz/ or at the door thirty minutes before the performance, if available.
Following the spring recess our wonderful spring concerts will begin in May. Please check our calendar and be sure to join us for these delightful performances.
Spring sports are in full swing at WMS and HHS! Be sure to check our athletic schedules to join us to cheer on all of our Bulldog teams this season.
In addition to all of the wonderful student performances and events, I would like to share with you that the implementation of our HW 2025 Strategic Plan is well underway. So far this year, we have asked students, parents, and staff members for their thoughts and opinions through a variety of surveys. This data will provide us with key insights that will help drive our decision making and continue to bring our vision and mission to life. The most recent survey, the School Quality Survey, was shared with parents, students, and staff yesterday. Please take a few moments to once again share your opinions with us about the schools your children attend. Your feedback is invaluable!
And finally…District administration and the Board of Education have been hard at work on the development of the budget for the 2019-2020 school year. Community members will have the opportunity to vote on the budget on May 21, 2019 at the Woodmere Education Center from 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM. If you have not been able to join us for our budget planning sessions, please visit the Budget Section on our District Website by clicking HERE.
We will also be hosting three Information Budget Q & A sessions for the community on April 29 at 7:00 PM at the Hewlett Fire Department, May 7 at 11:00 AM at the Center for Adult Life Enrichment, and May 14 at 10:00 AM at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library. Our Annual Budget Hearing will be held on May 8 at 6:00 PM at the Woodmere Education Center. All are welcome to join us to learn more about the proposed 2019-2020 budget.
As always, spring is bursting with activity at all of our schools. We look forward to seeing you at one of our future events or celebrations.
Wishing you and your families a wonderful upcoming spring recess!
