Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools! I hope you are enjoying these last few (very hot) days of summer!
Yesterday, we welcomed back all of our returning staff, as well as the new members of our Hewlett-Woodmere family, during our annual first day event. The excitement filled the room as we all anticipate the arrival of the students on Tuesday!
Throughout the summer, renovations and repairs have been ongoing at all of our buildings. New Internet Protocol phones and clocks have been installed at Hewlett High School and Woodmere Middle School. The public address systems at both HHS and WMS have also been upgraded. The new playgrounds are underway at all three of our elementary schools to provide a fabulous new experience for all of our youngest students. Ogden Elementary School has a renovated nurse’s office and library, and a wonderful new music room. The Hewlett High School roofing project is complete. The heating, ventilation, and cooling upgrades are in progress at Franklin Early Childhood Center and Hewlett Elementary School, and the window project is continuing throughout the District.
We have also been hard at work finalizing the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools Strategic Plan (HW 2025) that will guide our District for the next seven years. So many of our staff, students, parents, and community members have dedicated their time throughout the past two years to ensure that the new plan reflects the hopes and dreams of our entire community. We look forward to sharing the plan with you in the coming days.
The 2018-2019 school year promises to be one filled with stimulating learning, fantastic music and art performances, exciting athletic events, and warm community gatherings. I encourage you to review our District calendar and join us at these wonderful occasions. The District website (www.hewlett-woodmere.net), your school websites, and the District Facebook page are fantastic sources of information about all of our upcoming events.
Once again this year, I will be hosting Superintendent Roundtables at different locations throughout the community. These informal discussions are open to all and are a great opportunity to ask questions, make suggestions, or just stop by to say hello.
I hope you enjoy the upcoming Labor Day weekend. I can’t wait to greet the students on their first day!
Wishing you and your family a wonderful 2018-2019 school year!
