IDS - Maintenance Project
Student in sixth grade interdisciplinary studies classes have been participating in a long term project in the greenhouse at the OEC. Students work in groups to help greenhouse staff maintain and measure the progress of a specific area in the greenhouse. The groups were assigned to one of 5 areas; hydroponics; aquaponics, vermicompost; biomes; and carnivorous bog. Each week the student were charged with the task of measuring the plants, taking soil and/or water readings, and helping with any maintenance tasks. After several weeks the group’s switch and different students take over. After all the groups had participated the student made presentations that were shared with the rest of the class on their experiences in the greenhouse.
Many thanks for the help of Mrs. Kearney.
