Calculating Percents from Plant Growth
Math students in the seventh grade had the opportunity to use the greenhouse at the OEC to calculate percentages of plant germination and growth. Over the course of this two-day lesson students calculated germination rates of corn, peas and sunflowers. In addition, they tracked the growth of the three different plants over the course of a one week period. They used the data to explore the differences in growth rate percentages between the different types of plants.
