Art in the Courtyard

Art Students Visit the OEC

The WMS art teachers brought their classes to the OEC courtyard and greenhouse on several beautiful fall days to create works of art centered on natural themes.

The studio in Art students observed and analyzed objects from the art room and plant life from in and outside of the pond.  They produced a series of drawings based on the different environments and then they imagined and synthesized them into a single work of art.

The seventh grade students worked on drawing from observation by creating sketches of plants from the greenhouse and courtyard.  The students observed the detailed botanical illustrations of naturalist Carolus Linnaeus and learned the importance of looking closely and working slowly in order to capture the detail.  The students transformed their sketches into vivid watercolor paintings.

Please enjoy the following selection of pictures detailing the work process and completed projects.  Many thanks to Mr. Giustino and Ms. Ferguson!
