Acidic Sunflowers

Influence of Acidic Acid on Sunflower Growth

Seventh grade science students visited the greenhouse in the OEC to conduct an experiment which investigated the influence of acidic solutions on the growth of sunflowers.  The classes had the opportunity to plant sunflower seeds, track germination times/rates and measure early growth.  In addition, students made varying strength acidic acid solution, applied the toxins to the sunflowers and measured the influence on growth over time.  Results were calculated, graphed, and compared between classes.
