We are so excited to be inducting Dr. Matthew Bank,
Class of 1987 into our Hall of Fame!
We recognize Dr. Bank for contributing to the care and advancing the treatment of trauma patients. After graduating from Brandeis University, Dr. Bank completed medical school at New York Medical College, trained in General Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and finally finished his training with a trauma surgery fellowship at the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Bank joined North Shore University Hospital as a trauma surgeon in 2001 & became the Director of Trauma Surgery at North Shore’s Level One Trauma Center in 2006. In 2007 he took time off from his employment in the United States to work as a surgeon for Médecins San Frontiéres (Doctors without Borders) in Port Harcourt, Nigeria where he treated casualties from the civil conflicts surrounding the struggle for control of the oil-rich Niger Delta region. In 2019, Dr. Bank became the Executive Director of the Northwell Health Trauma Institute, with oversight of seven trauma centers across the New York City area admitting 10,000 trauma patients annually. In 2023, the New York State Health Commissioner appointed him as the Chair of the New York State Department of Health Trauma Advisory Committee, which sets policies and guidelines for care of trauma patients throughout New York State. He has also served as the Chair of the Greater New York Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.
