Dear FECC Families,
For your information:
We will be having the following mandatory drills, due to New York State law, over the course of the school year:
Fire: There are 12 drills per school year. Exit building when fire alarm rings. Return when building is safe to enter.
Lockdown: At least 3 drills per year. Actual lockdown would be usually implemented when an intruder is in the building. Over the public address system the staff is asked to lock their doors and stay in their rooms until the situation is safe to “unlock” doors.
Lockout: At least one drill per year. Actual lockout would be used when a situation exists where it is safer to have no one either exit or enter the school building. All doors are locked and no one can enter or exit until the situation is determined safe again.
Evacuation: At least one drill per year. Situation where students/staff will be sent to a predetermined location outside and away from the school building. They will wait there until the situation is determined safe again.
Shelter: At least one drill per year. Situation where it is safer to gather together inside at a predetermined location rather than outside the school.
If your child comes home from school and shares their experience with you, you will be aware that these are mandatory drills we participate in by law.
