Winter 2024/2025

Dear Members of the Hewlett-Woodmere Community,

I hope this letter finds you all well and excited to embark on a two-week respite from Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools!

Our schools have been aglow with warmth and light throughout the past several weeks.

We sure do love our time-honored traditions here at Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools and they are out in full force during the holiday season. Franklin kicked off the festivities with their fabulous Thanksgiving Feast, where all students gathered to eat and celebrate as a family. Seeing the children in their pilgrim hats just never gets old.

Once again, students from Hewlett Elementary rang in the season with Trees for Troops at Dees’ Nursery. Nothing warms my heart as much as seeing our elementary students giving back by loading trees, cards, and gifts onto a plane to bring some holiday cheer to our troops. The Franklin Early Childhood Center's Puffball Celebration, a cherished tradition for over five decades, was a heartwarming success as our Pre-K students enjoyed the special event with their families. Ogden sparkled in the night at the breathtaking holiday lights spectacular. Children of all ages had a wonderful time visiting the displays, taking photos under the lights, and munching on delicious goodies.

As always, our holiday concerts showcase the incredible talent and festive spirit of students across the district. On Wednesday, our Hewlett High School Concert Chorale delighted audiences on their District and community tour, spreading holiday cheer with beautiful performances. If you missed any of the concerts, or would like to rewatch them, you can view all the performances online here.

This winter, our five schools will once again open their doors to new and prospective community members at Open House events. The Open Houses are a terrific way to tour our schools, meet building staff members, learn about our fabulous educational experiences, and much more. Woodmere Middle School and Hewlett High School will host the community on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, and Franklin Early Childhood Center, Hewlett Elementary School, and Ogden Elementary School will hold their Open Houses on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Please feel free to spread the word to your family members, friends, and neighbors so they can learn more about what makes Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools so special.

To stay up to date on all of our fantastic events and happenings throughout the District, please follow us on Facebook (HWPS14) and Instagram (@14HWPS). News and photos are posted daily! Also, please watch your mailboxes in early January for our Happy New Year newsletter.

On behalf of everyone here at Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, I wish you peace, love, and joy throughout the holiday season. I hope that everyone has the opportunity to relax and enjoy special moments with family and friends. And of course, I sure hope Mother Nature graces us with our first winter snowfall during the break!

Warm regards,

Ralph Marino, Jr., Ed.D.
