Spring 2025
Dear Members of the Hewlett-Woodmere Community,
Happy spring! I hope you and your family have been able to enjoy some of the beautiful sunny days we have had recently. Hopefully, more are on the horizon!
As always, our schools have been the hubs of so many wonderful activities throughout the winter months. Our Hewlett High School students enjoyed the time-honored tradition of the “Battle of the Classes,” with the seniors reigning victorious. Staff from all of our schools descended on the HHS Gym for the 6th annual Staff Volleyball Tournament. The team from Ogden Elementary School took home the prized trophy this year. Hewlett Elementary School transformed into a replica of New York City at the recent New York State Fair. News 12 even came along to check out the fun. OES students have been loving March Madness 2025, where they’ve been voting for their favorite picture books, with dress-up days leading to the Book Championship on April 8th. The new field at Woodmere Middle School is open and our athletes have been loving it. Also, “Beetlejuice, Jr.” opens at WMS today! Franklin Early Childhood Center is gearing up for the Annual One World Cultural Celebration on April 8th, where staff, students, and families will share their culture heritages through food, dance, and artifacts.
The arrival of spring means we are in the “home stretch” of the 2024-2025 school year. The next three months will be filled with concerts, plays, honor society inductions, District STEAM night, student recognitions, special events, and so much more. Spring sports have begun, and I am sure that our talented athletes would be thrilled for you to come cheer them on throughout the season. Athletic schedules can be found at hwbulldogs.com.
In the blink of an eye, the familiar melody of “Pomp and Circumstance” will fill the air at our graduation and moving up ceremonies. For those of you celebrating graduates this year, the dates, times, and locations of the 2025 ceremonies can be found HERE.
I know it is hard to believe, but the school year will soon come to an end and we will be met with the warmth and sunshine of summer. I am excited to announce the return of five of our extraordinary summer programs. Please click HERE for more information.
Once again this year, the Board of Education and administration have been hard at work for six months preparing the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 school year. Community members will have the opportunity to vote on the budget, two capital project expenditures, and two Board of Education seats on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at the Woodmere Education Center from 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM. Our student voters in grades Pre-K through 5 will also have the opportunity to vote at our special Student Vote! More information will be shared soon.
If you have not been able to join us at any of our budget planning meetings, I invite you to attend one of our upcoming Budget Q&A sessions. These sessions are open to all community members and will be held on the following dates and times: Thursday, April 24 at 11:00 AM at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library; Tuesday, May 6 at 12:00 noon at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library; and Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00 PM at the Hewlett Fire Department. Budget information can also be found on the District website by clicking HERE.
With so many wonderful events on the horizon, I encourage you to check our online calendar often. It will contain the most accurate information about upcoming school and District activities. Also remember to follow us on Facebook (HWPS14) and Instagram (14HWPS) for announcements, photos, highlights, and updates on our school community.
Once again, happy spring to you and your family! I look forward to celebrating with all of you throughout the next few months.
Warm regards,
Ralph Marino, Jr., Ed.D.
