Hewlett High School DECA Team Wins First Place in Statewide Virtual Business Challenge

Good news from Hewlett High School! The team of seniors Inon Azour and Aidan Khan and junior George Chikvanaia earned first place in New York State in the DECA Virtual Business Challenge – Retailing Track. Competing against top-performing teams across the state, the trio’s strategic decision-making and strong business acumen helped them outperform the other 12 finalists — nearly doubling the profit of their closest competitor.

The Retailing Track of the DECA Virtual Business Challenge allows participants to test their skills in managing a virtual retail operation — from merchandising products and setting prices to managing staffing, inventory, and store locations. Teams are ranked based on their store’s cumulative profit after running the simulation for five virtual years, requiring both analytical thinking and entrepreneurial creativity.

Susan Hanlon and Molly Henck, Business Education Teachers and DECA Advisors at Hewlett High School, praised the students’ efforts and success:

“Inon, Aidan, and George demonstrated incredible teamwork and business insight throughout the challenge. Their ability to analyze data, make smart decisions, and stay focused on their goals really set them apart. We’re so proud of their achievement and how well they represented Hewlett High School.”

The students’ first-place finish highlights the strength of Hewlett High School’s DECA program and its commitment to preparing future leaders in business, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
