Sandy Versus Loamy Soil
Students in Mrs. Hoolan’s classes developed and conducted an experiment to explore the influence of soil composition on corn growth. Classes visited the greenhouse in the OEC over the course of several weeks to conduct this experiment. Specifically, the classes looked at the difference between loamy and sandy soil. The students made observation and predictions before planting and measuring corn germination and growth. The students had the opportunity to test their hypotheses and develop conclusions for their work.
