Three Sisters come to the OEC
The 7th grade students used the greenhouse and courtyard at the OEC to learn about Iroquois culture and growing techniques in their social studies classes. The OEC portion of the unit centered around the “Three Sister’s Myth” and the ecological benefit of growing corn, beans and squash together. The students learned about growing techniques, sowed seeds, observed germination, and have seen their seedling mature. The greenhouse continues to abound with pole beans and corn from this project.
