Welcome to the Department of World Languages!
In a world that is rapidly becoming interdependent, command of world languages is more and more necessary, not only for travel, but in politics, industry, commerce, and the arts. The increasing number of various language groups within the United States has created a critical need in many careers for persons trained in world languages. The study of a world language can provide practical communication skills and understanding of another culture. Your choice of college or employment will be wider as a result of the study of a world language.
The Department of World Languages at Hewlett High School believes in a communicative approach to language learning. Students are encouraged to speak, listen to, read, and write in the language daily to increase proficiency. Student progress is monitored by teachers to help students succeed and reflect on daily progress. In addition, students explore countries around the world as they discover new cultures along with the language.
The Department offers courses in French, Italian, Spanish, and English as a Second Language.
