    Dear Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools Community,

I hope this letter finds all of you safe, healthy, and uplifted by the warmer weather and promise of summer.

I know many of you have questions regarding the reopening of schools. Please be assured that the District is preparing for the fall, although ultimately, the governor, the NYS Education Department, the NYS Health Department, and the Nassau County Health Department will determine when and how we open.

As you may know, Governor Cuomo announced last week that Districts would receive guidance in June regarding the reopening of schools.  He also stated that all school districts will need to submit a reopening plan at the end of July for approval by the state. The District is in the process of creating a Covid-19 Reopening Task Force to complete this plan.

I also want to share with you that we are administering a stakeholder survey in early June for students, parents, and staff to help assess our response to the pandemic. The survey results will assist us in future planning.

Please know that I will keep the community apprised of our reopening plans in the months ahead. The District is fully committed to keeping our students and staff safe in our schools.

I know that information regarding the extended school closure is coming at a fast and furious pace, necessitating that we continue to revise plans. Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we adjust to this rapidly evolving situation as a community.

As always, there is no greater importance than the health and safety of our students, staff, parents, and community. Together, we will navigate this storm and emerge once again as the unparalleled, compassionate, and extraordinary community of Hewlett-Woodmere.

I wish you and your families well.

    Warm regards,

    Ralph Marino, Jr., Ed.D.
