Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you and your families are safe and well during this unprecedented time in our world.
This morning, Governor Andrew Cuomo extended the mandated school closure through April 15, 2020. Under this order, Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools will now reopen on Monday, April 20, 2020.
Please know that our scheduled Spring Break from April 9 – 19 will remain intact. Remote learning will continue through April 8, but will not take place during Spring Break. It is more important than ever for our students, staff, parents, and community to take the time to relax, unwind, and decompress. I hope that you are all able to use this time off to the fullest.
It is important to note that the distribution of breakfast and lunch at Hewlett High School will continue throughout the extended school closure and during Spring Break, with the exception of Thursday, April 9, Friday, April 10, and Monday, April 13. There will be no food service on those three days. As a reminder, meals can be picked up at the high school each weekday between 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Please enter through the East Rockaway Road entrance.
I know we are all anxiously waiting for our lives, schools, and community to return to normal. The absolute best way we can help to accomplish this goal is to follow the advice of health professionals. Dr. Blinderman, the District’s physician, has echoed these sentiments and asserts that the best protection against the virus is to remain at home. When running essential errands, he advises to maintain social distancing and avoid touching your face after contact with surfaces outside the home.
Please know that the entire Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools staff wishes you and your families well during these challenging times. I remain steadfastly convinced that we will emerge from this crisis as a stronger and more caring community.
Please stay safe, and be well.
Ralph Marino, Jr., Ed.D.
