    March 15, 2020

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

As shared with you earlier today, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has mandated the closure of all school districts from Monday, March 16 - Friday, March 27. We know that you likely have many questions in light of this extended closure. It is our hope that this letter will assist you in planning for the next two weeks.

Please know that this closure means that all District events, athletic contests, and recreation and adult education activities are also canceled. Transportation will not be provided to non-public schools.

The District is prepared to begin digital learning for all students in grades P-12. As previously stated, teachers will begin communicating with you and their students by the end of the day tomorrow, Monday, March 16. Instruction will vary depending on grade level and teacher and will include the following:

Grades P-5: Teachers will communicate with parents via email, or their established communication platform (i.e. Seesaw, Google Classroom), in order to share instructional materials, assignments, and/or submittal directions.
Grades 6-12: Communication will flow through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal where teachers will outline the process for accessing instructional materials, completing assignments, and submitting work.
Our three elementary schools have developed Digital Learning sections on their websites that will provide additional resources for students in grades P-5. These sections can be accessed by clicking the links below:

FECC: Pre-K Click HERE;   Kindergarten Click HERE;   1st Grade Click HERE.

    OES: Click HERE

It is important to know that students who experience difficulty submitting work electronically will not be penalized, and they will have the opportunity to return work once school reopens.

If your child does not have access to a District or personal device, or if you need directions on how to access free Wifi, please visit Hewlett High School, Monday-Friday of this week from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Please enter through the East Rockaway Road entrance, where security will provide you with instructions for pick up. If you have additional questions, please contact akavanagh@hewlett-woodmere.net.

The District will be providing breakfast and lunch to students on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program each day during the school closure. Meals will be distributed at Hewlett High School each weekday between the hours of 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Please enter the parking lot via the East Rockaway Road entrance, where you will be directed by security.

Please continue to visit the special section of our website for the latest information on the District’s status. There is also a link to an article from the National Association of School Psychologists on speaking to children about the virus and its global implications. The website can be accessed by clicking HERE

I wish you and your families well during this rapidly evolving situation. We know that this closure may be challenging for many of our families. Please know that we stand ready to assist you in any way possible. We will continue to update you as necessary,

Thank you in advance for your understanding as we navigate these uncertain times as a community.

    Kind regards,

    Ralph Marino, Jr., Ed.D.

    Superintendent
