Pond
The freshwater pond and waterfall at the OEC is a fully functional pond ecosystem that can be utilized by students in a comfortable manner in any season.
The OEC pond and waterfall provide opportunities to study a unique ecosystem within the confines of a school setting. The pond contains several aquatic species of plant and animal and the surrounding environment provides examples of native Long Island wetland flora. Potential teaching topics include but are not limited to: pond ecology; water quality testing; indicator species; ichthyology; journal writing; poetry; wetland ecology; and pollution.
