In Kindergarten, we are using a program called “Investigations in Number, Data, and Space.” The curriculum is designed to support students to make sense of mathematics and learn that they can be mathematical thinkers. It focuses on computational fluency with whole numbers as a major goal. It provides substantive work in rational numbers, geometry, measurement, data, and early algebra. “Investigations” gives children an understanding that they have mathematical ideas. It gives children the opportunity to apply what they know to new situations, and to think and reason about unfamiliar problems. Students will learn to rely on their own thinking and learn from the thinking of others.
