George W. Hewlett High School (HHS) is a comprehensive high school with programs designed to meet the needs of all students. We encourage students to immerse themselves in all that HHS has to offer by taking diverse courses and being involved in activities and athletics. Our “open enrollment” policy allows students to take a variety of rigorous and relevant courses from our vast array of offerings.
Points of Pride:
98% of graduates pursue post-secondary education. 85% attend four-year colleges; 13% attend two-year colleges.
Twelve dual-enrollment/college courses are offered through SUNY Albany, C.W. Post–Long Island University, and Syracuse University Project Advance.
Nineteen Advanced Placement courses are offered. Steady increase in comprehensive Advanced Placement program.
Students participate in a rich arts program (music, visual arts and theater), well beyond the NYS mandate for the arts.
Senior Year Experience gives students the opportunity to extend learning through an internship or a career-based project.
Juniors complete an interdisciplinary, inquiry-based research project.
Special programs including Science and Social Science Research, Virtual Enterprise, Silver Cord Community Service Program, 46 clubs and 43 interscholastic athletic teams.
Twilight Program and Operation Success provide additional support as needed.
It is our hope that HHS students will emerge as discerning, educated citizens with healthy self-confidence, respect for others, and the skills necessary to find success in college, in the workplace, and in all the challenges life offers.
